Youtube’s home feed is algorithmically tailored to each individual’s preferences, but many times users just want to see the most popular content. It was necessary to provide quick access to new and trending videos, while meeting the needs users who are diverse in their interests.
I was a designer and UX prototyper on this project. I created design iterations and high fidelity prototypes that were used for research sessions and demos.
Our team designed a new tab within the mobile YouTube app that allows users to access a list of daily trending videos, and browse top videos within topics and subtopics. The overall structure was simple and adaptable to temporal content such as the super bowl, election, etc.
Launched in 2016 with positive reviews.
